Membership / Joining Us

The Society is financed mainly through Membership Subscriptions which are used partly for the hire of rehearsal rooms throughout the season plus remunerations for our Music Director and Pianist and partly for subsidising the considerable costs of its public concerts.  Further finance is obtained from various grants as and when available.

The annual subscription is agreed by the members at the Annual General Meeting at the beginning of the season, normally in early September.  The subscription for the 2023-24 season is £110 (the equivalent about £3.25 per session).  Subscriptions are due in September but may be paid in two equal instalments in September and January.  To help with the increasing costs of producing concerts with soloists and orchestra, members are also asked to consider donating an extra £10 or £20 if possible.

Although there is no audition required for membership of the choir, members are asked to make a commitment to 75% rehearsal attendance to take part in a concert.

The Society is a Registered Charity (No. 1012348) and is able to accept donations made under Deed of Covenant or as Gift Aid.   Members who are tax payers are also asked to register for Gift Aid.  This enables the Society to recover tax amounting to some 25% of the next payment.  Full details are available from the Society's Treasurer, Paul Cotton.

How to join the Society

  • Come to the United Reformed Church, High Street, Church Stretton on any rehearsal night (Thursday evenings from early September and from January to April) shortly before 7.30 pm and speak to the Music Director, Mike Turner, or to the Chair, Jamie Wrench, or to any member of the choir.  You would be welcome to stay for a full rehearsal on any Thursday to help you decide whether you would like to join us.
